I really enjoyed today's class and I am excited to learn more! I particularly liked the read alouds, they were great stories! Also, I found the handouts about the strategies to be extremely helpful and informative. As an special education major I realize how important it is to use visual aids in all aspects of the classroom. I will definately be saving these handouts so I can use them in my classroom.
I didn't realize there were so many ways to teach children reading and writting. I found out that I am a bottom-up style teacher. I think that these results are accurate with my personality and beliefs. I think if kids do not know how to read a word, they should not be forced to read it because it may be very difficult for them. As a result they may become discouraged or develop a learned fear that they cannot read. In my opinion it is better to let kids read at their own level, this way they become confident about their skills and want to read more.
